Room Acoustics of Łukasz Błasiński Recording Studio, Sulejówek

The works on the acoustic project, which included studio room acoustics, covered:

  • electrical wiring guidelines,
  • studio rooms soundproofing,
  • digital models of room acoustics,
  • design of the construction of acoustical structures,
  • arrangement of acoustical structures in studio rooms.

Pracownia Akustyczna was invited to design room acoustics for  Łukasz Błasiński's
private recording studio in the late 2009. The studio consists of:

  • recording room (volume 130 m3/4591 cubic feet, usable area 40 m2/431 square feet),
  • studio control room (volume  60 m3/2120 cubic feet. usable area larger than 20 m2/215 square feet),
  • corridor,
  • lavatory.

A corridor connecting recording room with control room additionally serves as an acoustic buffer.

The recording room was modified comparing to the first architectonic project to achieve desirable room acoustics.

The proportions of the room as well as the usable area were changed to achieve required comfort of work. A comfortable studio control room with excellent room acoustics has been created above the recording room.

Studio control room was created in light technology of drywall. It has the required proportions and its shape assures the proper distribution of sound reflections for undisturbed perception of sound.

To achieve proper room acoustics of both rooms, the professional Wave Acoustics acoustical structures were used:

  • on the ceiling of recording room there are acoustic panels D7MF - the sound diffusers for mid-frequencies,
  • in the recording room slotted acoustic structures have been created using D7HF diffusers, which diffuse sound for hi-frequencies,
  • on the back wall of studio control room there is a broadband diffusing structure D7WB which is a fractal diffuser (diffuser within the diffuser).

After the montage of all acoustical structures the acoustical measurements has been done.

As a a part of room acoustics tuning procedure other acoustical structures has been added on the ceiling of the recording room. Finally, the acoustical parameters has proved consistent with the project guidelines.

The room acoustics in the studio allows to record live in the studio and to make high quality records using just the proper microphone techniques, without the additional phonic signal processing, such as using plug-ins.
