Polski Theatre - the J.Grzegorzewski Stage acoustics tuning

The project of rebuilding of the main stage in Polski Theatre in Wroclaw included e.g. the room acoustics tuning, electroacoustic system, and intercom system.

The acoustics tuning applies, above all, to:

  • optimization of acoustic reflectors in the audience,
  • lowering stage reverberation time,
  • improving sound propagation from stage to audience,
  • the acoustic adaptation of orchestron pit.

The acoustics tuning required audience and stage digital modelling, which enabled to conduct digital simulations. Created for the purpose of acoustics tuning model turned out to be relatively complex, having around 1  100 square meters (11 900 square feet) size and 15 tys m3 (530 000 cubic feet) volume.

Based on analyses, it was possible to decide which of the acoustic screens needed to be moved in order to tune the acoustics, achieving an even sound coverage in the audience.
Further analyses showed the directions for stage box acoustics tuning, where it was necessary to  use absorbing and diffusing panels.

Electroacoustic system designed for Polski Theatre includes:

  • electroacoustic wiring,
  • FOH console with peripheral devices,
  • audience sound reinforcement with the use of active loudspeakers adjusted to tuned acoustics,
  • stage monitors adjusted to tuned stage acoustics using an independent monitor console.

One of the basic stage management devices is an intercom system.
Polski Theatre will be equipped in a digital intercom system, which enables bidirectional communication - wired and wireless.

This intercom system, apart from the communicating functions enables to control the following systems:

  • public address,
  • monitoring,
  • cue lighting.

Prompt corner, next to an intercom desk includes:

  • active stage monitors,
  • viewing monitors,
  • keyboard control for moving camera,
  • synchronous timer,
  • announcements player,
  • position lighting.
